The Nordic conference "Transition from Education to Work" was arranged in Stockholm on October 17, in cooperation with RI member organisations in the Nordic countries.
The aim of the RI Nordic conference was to raise success factors for how persons with disabilities can find and keep work with or without subsidies. Guest speakers from Norway and Sweden contributed.Presentations were reflecting two different themes:
• School and the transition – with preparation and various support before getting a job.
• In the workplace – support for the employers and the individuals when starting the job.
We all know that it is difficult for persons with disabilities to find a job in the regular labour market. For many years the question has been raised to find out what is the problem. Politicians and professionals often talk about the situation as a problem and look for special solutions. Sometimes there may be a need for special solutions but not in general.
At this conference RI wanted to focus on the success factors for how persons with disabilities can find a job. The presentations gave glimpses of successful results from different research studies and projects.
