An interactive panel discussion was held at UN Headquarter on 17 June, in order to highlight the importance of promoting and protecting the rights and development of children with disabilities.

Children with disabilities are among the most stigmatized and excluded in society, often suffering marginalization within the family, community and at school. This often leads to poor health and education outcomes, a higher risk for violence, abuse and exploitation, further affecting their chances for participating in society.

To draw attention to this issue, an interactive panel discussion on the promotion and protection of the rights of children with disabilities was held at UN Headquarters on 17 June. Panelists and experts highlighted the importance of the promotion and protection of the rights and development of children with disabilities. The event was convened by the delegation of the European Union to the UN along with the Permanent mission of Uruguay, UNICEF and DESA.
