World Health Organization (English World Health Organization, WHO) was established 7 April 1948, and is an organ under the United Nations. The organization is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, but also six regional offices with some degree of independence. The European regional office is located in Copenhagen, Denmark.

World Health Organization has 193 Member States. The organization's purpose is to ensure the highest possible standard of living for the world's population.

WHO's director general Margaret Chan. Former Norwegian Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland was president 1998-2003.
